Community Foster Care was built on the grounds of believing in people’s potential. We look to recruit a diverse range of foster carers from many different backgrounds, but we actively focus on finding foster carers in more deprived communities as well.

Children in care have varied needs and therefore it is so important to have foster carers available who align culturally with their foster children. This model also creates opportunity and reinforces belief in communities that may oftentimes go overlooked.

Our foster carers can be:
  • single, married or divorced
  • male or female
  • a parent with young or grown-up children
  • someone who’s never had children
  • a single parent
  • in a same-sex relationship
  • employed or unemployed (employed people who need to work full-time will be considered for respite foster care, ie weekends and school holidays to support other foster carers

NB You may have a criminal record for non-violent offences or cautions in the past.
"Absolutely go for it. Don’t put it off. You get a lot of support and training from Community Foster Care and you meet lots of other carers so there’s always someone to talk to.

"Of course there are low points – there are with any child. But there are a lot more fantastic moments – like a hug that comes from nowhere when you least expect it. That to me is priceless. And hearing children’s laughter – a deep belly laugh. It’s so infectious and you can’t help but smile."
