As the largest children's charity in the UK we have the scale, expertise and experience to enter into a new type of partnership with Local Authorities (‘corporate parents') to help make the changes that can make a real difference. We are calling it Care Journeys (plural) as opposed to Care Journey (singular) as each child and young person goes on their own ‘journey'. We also refer to children and young people who are “looked after” and “care leavers” as care experienced children and young people. One of the main programmes we run is Triangles. Designed to empower care experienced young people and support them to make transformational changes to the care system. The innovation brings together eight ‘triangles' from across the UK. Two care experienced young people and one frontline practitioner work together in each triangle, developing a mission to work towards over a 12-month period. Through creating and progressing their missions, young people develop skills including confidence and influence. Follow-on funding is available to extend missions beyond the initial 12 months where potential to create sustainable, meaningful change in the care system is identified, working towards better outcomes for care experienced young people.
