The Cystic Fibrosis Workers are part of Bewick Road Services within Barnardo's and work as part of the Children's CF service at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The range of issues with which they offer support is very broad.Some needs are practical and include welfare rights and financial matters; housing; education; etc. Other work has more to do with how people manage and feel about a range of issues including the variable impact of living with CF; treatment matters; changing relationships; etc. To offer support to families in securing the correct entitlement to appropriate disability benefits. The successful candidate will be offered support and training to develop the necessary knowledge base and skills to work alongside families to achieve this important aim. The CF workers form an integral part of a strong and well-established multi-disciplinary team. They are workers with initiative and resilience who work in such a way as to best use supervision and guidance as well as less formal systems of peer support. The role is a highly demanding but also satisfying one in which skills are developed and knowledge built to the advantage of service users and workers.
