People want to work at St Christopher’s in order to make a difference to young people’s lives. But we also invest in our staff so they can learn new skills, progress in their job and represent the best of their profession.

Find out more as Elena, a Home Manager at one of our children’s homes tells her story.

Why did you want to work at St Christopher’s?
I like the ethos and philosophy of St. Christopher’s. Before I started working at St. Christopher’s, I lived and worked in New York for two years in the private sector and as a qualified social worker. I didn’t enjoy the ethos that private companies adopt towards the welfare of children and young people so when I came back to London and I wanted to find a role that was more child focussed. I identified with St Christopher’s values and I wanted to be part of their journey to help children and young people to thrive.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy the managerial aspect that comes with the role and having the opportunity to work closely with children and young people, to be part of their journey, helping them to achieve their individual goals.

What other development opportunities have you had?
Support in completing my Level 5 Diploma

What is next in your career?
I started as a team leader five years ago and I am going to become the register manager for one of our homes so for now, I would like to focus on achieving Good in our next Ofsted inspection and have a full house.

What would you say to someone interested/ looking to join the profession?
If you are passionate about working with children and young people and you are looking for development opportunities, St Christopher’s invest in their staff. You will may be able to find a great role that suits your skills and be part of one of the oldest charities working with children and young people in the UK.
