Our Charter

DOWNLOAD CHARTER
This charter is intended to give a clear commitment to continuous quality improvement ensuring the child is always at the centre of everything we do. Membership of Fairer Fostering implies acceptance and  adherence to every element of this Charter.

Our main aims are to:
  • Ensure any surplus raised by our membership organisations are re-invested into supporting children in placement and beyond
  • Offer transparency in our dealings with all stakeholders
  • Promote good practice networking and supporting each organisation within the membership
  • Promote Fairer Fostering through lobbying

For children and young people we will:
  • Treat them as individuals and recognise individual difference
  • Support them as decision makers taking control in their own lives
  • Provide personal development opportunities to enhance their lives
  • Ensure all decisions are made in the best interest of the child and with their consent
  • Ensure the matching and safety of young people remain at the forefront of our work
  • Remove barriers and create positive relationships
  • Ensure their voices are heard and understood
  • Promote the elimination of discrimination against children in care
  • Build emotional resilience for traumatised children

For foster carers and their birth children we will:
  • Invest in their development and provide training opportunities
  • Consider them as fellow practitioners
  • Ensure promotion of children who foster ensuring their views are heard and understood

For our staff we will:
  • Value and trust people to work towards achieving the highest possible standards
  • Provide training and commit to continuing professional development
  • Involve them in all aspects of business development giving a sense of ownership

For our local authority partners we will:
  • Ensure there is no poaching of local authority foster carers
  • Contribute to community regeneration wherever we are based
  • Work in partnership
  • Meet statutory and best practice requirements

For central government we will:
  • Advocate for children in respect of regulation
  • Lobby influential decision makers
  • Be alert to sector specific campaigns

To ensure quality we will:
  • Consult with all our stakeholders on an annual basis
  • Commit to continuous improvement of our practice
  • Ensure the promotion of evidence based outcomes for children and young people
  • Ensure all elements of this charter are adopted by each member organisation
