![]() John Powell has been appointed chair of a new fostering panel for the charity Community Foster Care. Covering the north of England, it will be based in Lancaster and primarily helps to appoint new foster carers from Lancashire and Cumbria. Mr Powell, 63, worked as a social worker and manager for 37 years in Teesside, Cumbria and Lancashire before his retirement in 2010. He has since worked as an independent social work consultant and also chairs the Blackpool Council Adoption Panel. The panel he chairs for CFC, a not-for-profit agency based in Quarry Road, Lancaster, seeks to recruit members with different backgrounds and skills. The panel will meet monthly from December to make recommendations to CFC for the approval of foster carers. “Panel members can come from a range of backgrounds including foster carers or families of foster carers,” said Mr Powell. “They may have been in care themselves or have a background in health, education, social work or other professions. “We hope to recruit people who live within this community who together will offer a broad perspective in the important task of approving foster carers to work with looked-after children in the care of the local authority.” Anyone interested should contact [email protected] Source: http://www.communityfostercare.co.uk/news/249/press-release-john-appeals-for-members-to-join-new-fostering-panel-in-lancashire Comments are closed.
