About Us
At Action for Children, we believe that every child should have a safe and happy childhood. We're committed to ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to thrive. We protect and support vulnerable children, young people and their families by giving them the practical and emotional care and support they need.

A maternity cover fixed term contract opportunity has arisen within our Group Legal Team. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and work as part of the in-house Action for Children Legal Team, which provides strategic legal advice and assistance to the Action for Children Group on a full range of in-house legal issues, including employment law, corporate governance, commercial contracts, data protection and property matters, amongst others.

Essentially, the role will be deputising to the Manager to the Head of Legal Services.

The ideal candidate must be:
  • Able to work independently managing a dynamic and varied caseload.
  • Have the ability to advise confidently on a wide variety of non-contentious and contentious employment matters, including employment law strategy, TUPE, redundancy, employment law aspects of acquisitions, tribunal claims, disciplinary and grievance matters, sickness absence management, contracts and policies, family rights and investigations.

The successful candidate must be:
  • Qualified to practice in England and Wales, however experience of managing external legal suppliers and/or advising directly in cross-jurisdiction areas such as Scotland, Northern Ireland or Ireland would be advantageous.
  • Experienced in in-house Legal work and/or advising on non-employment matters, such as commercial contracts, property, charity law and/or fundraising regulation will also be an advantage, but is not strictly required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is looking to progress to the next stage of their career, with opportunities to develop, for example by participating and leading on strategic legal projects, supervising junior team members, and designing and delivering training.
