Social worker – Adoption (Permanent)

Location of Post:  Unit 6 Pavilion Business Park, Royds Hall Road, Leeds. LS12 6AJ

Barnardo's Adoption West has an exciting permanent vacancy for a Social Worker to join the Service. This post offers the opportunity to join a committed and enthusiastic team of professional social workers and to develop knowledge and skills in the specialist area of family placement, within a very supportive setting. You would be joining an experienced team who embrace working in a creative, open and transparent manner with adopters to provide children with permanent homes in which they can thrive. The office base is in Leeds but staff in Barnardo's operate a “Work From Anywhere” system which allows flexibility.  There will be regular opportunities to meet with colleagues and you need to be able to travel to meet adopters and children within the Yorkshire region on a regular and frequent basis.

Objectives of Service
To recruit, train, assess and support prospective adopters in the Yorkshire region to provide safe, loving and nurturing families for children in need of permanent homes.  To work with our adopters, the placing authorities and other professionals to maintain the best quality of service, support and outcomes for children.

Initial Specific Responsibilities
Solid experience in fieldwork, residential or in a family placement setting is an essential part of the role, so if you have this then we would love to hear from you:
  • Degree in Social Work or relevant qualification in the field, such as DipSW, CQSW is essential.
  • Registered with Social Work England, or other equivalent.
  • Proactive team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and independently.
  • Good working knowledge of child protection procedures and legislation as applied to looked after children.
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of the issues facing birth parents, adopters and adopted children.
  • Good report writing and assessment skills. Experience of assessing prospective adopters and/or foster carer is preferable.

This is an extremely rewarding role, which can make a real and significant difference to the lives of children and young people.

The applicant will need to be able to participate and support the Out of Office hours helpline for adopters and carers. There is additional remuneration for providing this service.

Supplementary Information

The duties of this post require the applicant to have a full current driving license that enables them to drive in the UK and have use of a car and business use insurance.  Barnardo's is, however, willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants that would allow them to do the job by other means.
