Member Job Opportunity: Barnardo's - Assistant Director Children's Services - Essex

There is an opportunity to join the Barnardo's senior management team working across the South East region of England. If you are an inspirational and aspirational leader in Children's Services with a drive to ensure excellence for children, young people and their families then this opportunity may be for you.

The senior leadership team for the region, including our Assistant Directors Children's Services and School Principals provide oversight, guidance, supportive challenge and leadership presence for our teams and services across the region. The post therefore requires the applicant to be able to travel. Barnardo's does have a work from anywhere policy and the postholder will need to be confident in digital communication and remote working.

Please see the generic Assistant Director Children's Services job description, person profile and additional information.  The successful post holder will be responsible for a varied portfolio of work in Children's Services operations encompassing all areas of Barnardo's Corporate Strategic aims. The building portfolio also includes the senior leadership oversight and development of further provision across the communities we serve in Essex and the wider South East region. This particular Senior Leader's portfolio currently includes oversight of a partnership held with HCRG Care Group to deliver the Essex Child & Family Wellbeing Service.

The successful postholder will work with senior colleagues across the region to ensure we continue to develop services to best meet the needs of children, young people and their families in line with our Barnardo's Corporate Strategic aims to achieve Better Outcomes for more Children.

The ideal candidate will be able to evidence:
  • Determination to create immediate and systems wide change for children and young people within the challenging health and social care systems.
  • Your ability to maintain a child focussed approach as a senior leader.
  • Depth and breadth of management experience across a range of service areas including holistic Family Support, Early Support and Early Help.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and quality standards that apply to children's services.
  • Strong leadership skills and capabilities to ensure the standards of care, help, protection and support are of the highest quality.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racist behaviours.
  • Solution Focussed attitude and approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including employee engagement, workforce development and change management.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of business development and service development within children's services.
  • Commitment to co-design, co-production and co-delivery.
  • Commitment to work in the best interests of the charity and our objectives.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development as a senior leader.
