Due to the upcoming retirement of the current Service Manager, we have an exciting and unique opportunity at Barnardo's Making Connections Service for a highly motivated leader with a strong commitment to a trauma informed approach to sharing personal records.

Barnardo's holds the records of over half a million people who were formerly in our historical children's and foster homes, as well as the records of a large number of our more recent Service Users. Making Connections has the crucial role of managing Barnardo's Archive including all these childcare records.  The team are responsible for facilitating access to the records; primarily to now-adult former service users but also, when required, other agencies, such as Regional Adoption Agencies, Solicitors and the Police in line with relevant legislation and recognised good practice.

We are looking for an experienced and social work qualified manager to join us in taking this service forward with passion and creativity. You will be joining and leading an established team who are very experienced, skilled and knowledgeable in the field of records management and retrieval with a well-deserved reputation for excellent practice in this area.

When completing your application please explain how your skills, knowledge and experience relate to the requirements set out in the Person Specification, Job Description and, particularly, the Additional Information document that clearly sets out the skills and knowledge that we require and that you will need to demonstrate in your application. Your application should be completed in a way that demonstrates an understanding of the Making Connections Service and your ability to lead and manage such a Service. If you have questions or queries about the work of the Service, we would strongly encourage you to make contact with us by emailing [email protected] for an informal chat.

Barnardo's offers a hybrid working model covered under our `Work from Anywhere' Framework, therefore there is the opportunity for applicants to work some of the time from home or any location within the UK, including Barnardo's Hub/Office that is a reasonable distance from your home address. However, there is the expectation that the successful post-holder will spend the majority of their time in the office at Plaistow.

Flexibility
Barnardo's believe in creating equality of opportunity in the workplace and supporting people to manage their work-life balance; we are therefore open to offering flexible working arrangements.

About Barnardo's
At Barnardo's we believe in children – no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through. Please read about our basis and values following the link below. You will be asked questions relating to them as part of the recruitment process for this role.

Barnardo's is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce for staff and volunteers. We actively encourage applications from disabled, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within Barnardo's.
