Barnardo's Scotland Adoption Service (BSAS) has, for over 40yrs, provided a comprehensive range of services to those affected by adoption and recognises the lifelong implications of this.  The Adoption Support Service offers a wide variety of support to all affected by adoption and permanent care., delivering to 13 local authorities across Scotland.

The Adoption Placement Service has been successful in recruiting adoptive parents and has been able to place many children in stable and loving families; the service is looking to continue this work and appoint a qualified Social Worker who will primarily provide adoption support to adoptive parents, birth parents and adoptees.

Objectives of Service
The primary aim of Barnardo's Scotland Adoption Service is to provide the highest quality of adoption placement and adoption support services.

Our objectives include:-
  • To recruit, assess and approve a diverse range of adoptive families to meet the needs of waiting children.
  • To carefully match the needs of waiting children with the skills of the prospective adopters
  • To ensure all Barnardo's adopters have access to training, guidance and the support of a qualified supervising social worker
  • To provide a comprehensive support service to subscribing local authorities
  • To provide search and reunion service to those affected by adoption
  • We provide an intermediary service between adoptees and birth relatives
  • To directly work in partnership with adoptive families in need of therapeutic support to help build and maintain family relationships and improve outcomes for children
  • We facilitate letterbox contact

Initial Specific Responsibilities
  • To provide a range of therapeutic interventions, (this may include Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Non Violent Resistance and Nurture through play) to those affected by adoption.
  • To be part of a team of social workers who provide post adoption support.
  • To develop and deliver training to local authority partners, adopters, and other agencies.

Supplementary Information
This post requires a professional Social Work Qualification and Registration with Scottish Social Services Council.

This post requires an understanding of the lifelong nature of adoption. A sound knowledge of Family Placement Legislation and Regulation and a working knowledge of trauma informed practice and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences, experience of working therapeutically and the application of counselling skills.

Barnardo's offers a hybrid working model covered under our `Work from Anywhere' Framework, therefore vacancies advertised with this as an opportunity are open for applicants to either work from home or any location within the UK, including Barnardo's Hub/Office that is a reasonable distance from your home address. This post is to primarily cover the Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Dundee and north Fife areas and will include frequent travel to those areas.
