Member Job Opportunity: St Christopher's - ​Independent Reviewing Chairs x 2

We are looking for 2 Independent Reviewing Chairs to join our Fostering Services. One based in the West Midlands and one based in South East (Stevenage/ Essex/ London)

Our Independent Reviewing Chairs are engaged on a self-employed basis, Chair foster carer reviews, produce high quality reports for Agency and contribute to service development.

We would welcome expressions of interest from Qualified Social Workers with:
  • Experience of effectively chairing meetings within children’s social care.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a fostering service or working with care experienced children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the implementation of National Minimum Standards: Fostering Services, the Fostering Services Regulations and Ofsted’s inspection framework.
  • Knowledge of childcare legislation, particularly pertaining to care planning, and safeguarding children.
  • An understanding of the role of independent fostering agencies.
  • Experience of managing performance, setting and monitoring standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Chair and minute foster carer reviews at least once annually as required by the Fostering Regulations, following an agenda agreed by St. Christopher’s Fostering.
  • To highlight areas of good practice or commendations alongside areas of development for both the foster carer and the agency.
  • To rigorously review foster carers’ capability to meet the needs of children in foster care, incorporating their wishes and feelings as well as feedback from other professionals.
  • To confirm all relevant checks are up to date, and Health and Safety and Safe Care Policies are current and implemented.
  • Foster carers are fulfilling the agency expectations in relation to training, recording, Training, Support and Development Standards and the Foster Care Agreement.
  • To prepare high quality review reports with clear recommendations to the agency regarding the carer(s) and household’s suitability to foster, evidencing the reasoning behind the recommendations made.
  • Meet and work within the agency deadlines and timescales to ensure the efficient running of the service.
  • To comply with St. Christopher’s Safeguarding Policy and promote the safeguarding of children throughout their work.
