Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, has released the following statement regarding the election of Liz Truss as the new Leader of the Conservative Party and next UK Prime Minister. Barnardo's CEO Lynn Perry MBE said: “We strongly believe that investing in children is an urgent matter for the country’s future. Barnardo’s stands ready to work with the new Prime Minister and her new Government to help secure a better future for all children and their families, particularly those who are most vulnerable. “We are deeply concerned that so many families across the UK are now struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, especially as 3.9 million children were already living in poverty in 2020-21. “This comes at a time when one in six children in England have a diagnosable mental health condition, and a record number of children are in need of care and support from a foster family. “We hope the new Prime Minister will attend to these issues urgently to create safer childhoods and positive futures across the UK.” Source: www.barnardos.org.uk Comments are closed.
