This year, we’re proud to have worked with our partners to support over 357,000 children, young people, parents, and carers. As children and young people faced another year of uncertainty and disruption as a result of the pandemic, many missed school and struggled with their mental health and wellbeing. Thanks to the hard work, expertise, and dedication of all our colleagues, volunteers, and partners, we were there to support 357,276 children, young people, parents, and carers who needed us. We also found new homes for 124 children through our adoption services and supported 976 young people to live with our foster carers. We ensured children’s voices were heard by Governments across the UK Throughout the year, we brought the voices and experiences of children and young people directly to decision-makers across the four nations of the UK. In response to the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, we launched our report A Care System That Cares with recommendations co-created by care-experienced young people. We also helped to shape policy on mental health in Scotland and Cymru by participating in oral evidence sessions, and we influenced policy and legislation on unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Northern Ireland. 15,585 people volunteered with us Our brilliant volunteers continued to play a vital role in delivering our charity objectives, with 15,585 volunteers contributing 1.8 million hours of support to our work this year. We are thrilled that 96% of volunteers say they would recommend volunteering with Barnardo’s to a friend If you’re thinking about volunteering with us, find out how you can get involved. We raised £41.5m to invest in our vital services Thanks to the enormous generosity of all of our supporters, we raised an incredible £41.5m (£32.7m net) this year. On behalf of the children, young people, and families we support, we want to thank all the generous individuals, trusts, and foundations who supported us this year. Your continued belief in Barnardo’s allowed us to deliver vital support when it mattered most. We offered support through 794 services and partnerships across the UK We’re grateful for the support of Vodafone, IKEA, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Amazon, and Saint-Gobain, who worked with us to continue to support vulnerable children and young people. This year, Vodafone’s Great British Tech Appeal supported thousands of families and young people across the UK who didn’t have access to a device at home. The appeal asked customers and the public to donate their preloved devices, with over 10,000 people benefiting from mobile phones, tablets, and computers. Our partnership with IKEA delivered transformative impact for care-experienced young people in 2021-22, with the publication of our No Place Like Home report. This was based on new research, led and informed by young people who had left the care system, about the challenges they and others like them face when transitioning to adulthood.
