As one of the UK’s leading fostering charities, TACT is delighted that the Chancellor has increased the Qualifying Care Relief threshold for UK foster carers to £18,140 in the 2023 Spring Budget. TACT has long campaigned for a rise in the level of foster carer tax relief which has not increased since 2003. We specifically asked that a rise of 50% be enacted and this is what has happened. As the Chancellor said in his Budget announcement, foster families do a brilliant job, with thousands of children and young people in care across the UK depending on them. It is therefore appropriate that the Government acknowledges foster carers’ hard work and dedication to improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of society with this tax cut.
